Une petite slice of heaven...

The French countryside is peppered with tiny villages perched on top of hills around a church and a square.

The "terrain de boules" where men, young and old spend their summer afternoons playing la pétanque.

Life stands still. The odd old dear crosses the road to the bakers or the post office. A few passing tourists stop at the local café where the regulars do the usual thing of reading the paper from one end to the other.

The butcher doubles up as a "traiteur" providing an array of ready meals, gourmet restaurants would die to include on their menus.

I had to include a close up of this photo I posted a few days back because it really epitomises French life.

And then, once lunch is over, la Sieste empties the streets...

Who really wants to live in the fast lane?

Thats a beautiful park - and what a luxury to be able to just have a quiet read in the alley - perhaps, it will come true one day....

Beautiful impressions, remind me all very much of the Italian South.
The Viennese for sure don't live in the fast lane either. I spent the afternoon doing some souvenir shopping (goodies to take to friends far away from Vienna), coffee drinking and plain pretending to be part of all that leisure. I am not sure anymore, I really want to go to Italy next month, what with all the hassle, I wanna take a vacation right here. If there weren't the friends I want to meet ... ;-)

Q, I'm working on it.

Food, glorious food, Akela.

Bella, sometimes we really forget what life is all about.

Merisi, the South of France is very much like the South of Italy. I think you should go on your holiday. Time does not work in reverse.

Hayden, you are one person who enjoys a good slow pace of life.

Very good, Goth. I'll have to remember it.

Glad you enjoyed the ride Christine. Thanks for father's day.

Thanks Trac. I bet Nick had a good one.

No fast lane for me. I avoid it at all costs. Beautiful pictures.

A beautiful, tranquil place in a dizzy world! I've watched these photos over and over, I must show them to my mother.

Cream, this makes me think about how we can create our own lovely little space, it doesn't take much.

What do the women do while the men play la petanque, by the way?
