The ripple effect...
Last night I nearly forgot that only a few days ago, it was so cold we had to turn the heating on at the restaurants. I nearly forgot the arctic temperatures, because last night we finally got a glimpse of our elusive summer.
As I got to the lock gates, a small fishing craft was coming back into the marina. It left a beautiful ripple in its wake. I can never resist a ripple so I got the camera out and snapped, snapped!
Our diners are "subjected" to this great spectacle on a regular basis.
I often joke on with some of them by asking where they have "parked" their yacht... Funnily enough a few of our customers come from all over the North East to spend a few hours on their boats.
During the summer, many foreign yachtspeople visit our restaurants. Moi, the unfulfilled Sinbad, having only sailed on merchant ships during my student days, I always end up quizzing them about their intrepid voyages.
Last year, a Greek couple stopped by on their way up to Scotland. I used what little Greek I remembered from my sailing days, and the man, a retired sea captain, what Spanish he remembered from his South American runs, and we ended up having a delightful conversation.
Today, I am quite excited! A Blogfriend is visiting one of our restaurants!

gorgeous, I could stare at the water all day long!
have fun w/ the blogfriend! are you going to tell us who and post pics?
Who? Who? If it's Cherrypie, then I'm jealous!
Yes, Hayden, I love water too. And I see it every day! I'm surrounded by it. As for the blogfriend, we shall see if it is possible to post pics.
Hahahahaha! Andrea... Let's wait and see.
This blogfriend of ours is coming for dinner this evening.
Beautiful pictures Cream, I wishes I lived by the sea. ((sigh))
I'm intrigues to who the blogfriend is too.
Live's being good to you now, it seems, Cream. You sound much happier.
Who...who...anyone we know? C'mon, tell...
this is the ripple I have been waiting for! love it and have a delightful time!
Sunsets by the river or by the sea are something we simply take for granted living in or around Lisbon... guess we don't really to stop and think how lucky we are to be able to simply stop by the waterfront and have a nice cold beer after a day's work.
Being a lousy sailor and can only be a passenger and even that I haven't been for quite some time now. But with GH's oceanographic cruises she refuses to spend her free time on a ship...
"I can't resist a ripple" ... that could be taken so many ways. Great photos as usual.
Akela, the sea is beautiful at anytime of the year. I've always been fascinated by it.
As for the visiting blogfriend, I will reveal the name very soon...
Yes, Gigi, I have at last come out of the clouds, I think.
Thanks, Val. A great time was had.
Oh, DC, I sailed into Lisbon in 1977 on a battered cargo ship. We stayed there 3 days and I had a great time. Beautiful place.
GH has an amazing job!
Oooooh, Daphnée, you can take it any way you want...
gorgeous photos!
a so jealous - wish I could come visit your restaurant!!
I'm glad summer got to you. My new vegetable plot has got so wet over the last twenty-four hours that I am thinking about cultivating rice.
Love those photographs of the boats on the water. Very relaxing . . . especially if you get to sit there with a glass of wine and watch them going by.
lovely ripples and sun and shininess!
We have a primordial infatuation with the sea because that is where we came from. I love those pictures..my favorite vacation pictures usually have smiling kids, water, and a brilliant sunset.
Is it Sinbad?
I love that ripple photo, and the third and fourth picture could have been scenes painted by Vermeer (the colours so reminiscent of his "View of Delft").
I am so glad for you that summer has come to your area too. We had 30° at 7pm, but a lovely breeze and dry heat, so it's really enjoyable. Of course, having the sea close by, would really be heaven.
Your world is a beautiful place, Cream. You light it perfectly from every angle. x
Bella, the trip alone would be worth it.
Hub, thanks for visiting. Looks like I spoke too early about the summer. Wet, wet, wet!!
Thanks, Lettie, you sunshiny person.
I think you've got in one, HE.
Sin? Bad?
Merisi, it is back to winter! Cool and very wet! I am rusting away.
I'm glad you like the photos.
Cherrybabes, just a little sunshiny corner of the North East.
Thanks for your comment on the book... I feel a post coming. X
I feel so sorry about the bad weather spells that seem to hit you so often. Is this always so this time of the year?
You ought to come to Vienna, to fill yourself up with some real sunshine! Have you noticed that nice restaurant at Heiligenkreuzer Courtyard? *tempt*
Very tempting, Merisi! Molto tempting!
It really is like winter up here!
Mmmmmm, lovely everything is lovely.
