Love is...

I keep checking my "Quote of the day" on the side bar and some days I could shoot myself for linking in to "Said what". The quotes are often attributed to a dull fashion model or a dead general and mean bugger all...
"Beware of the young doctor and the old barber." By Benjamin Franklin.
"You, what?"

But this Wednesday's quote is quite good.
"Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young." (Arthur Wing Pinero)

As a teenager in love, I tried with the expert assistance of my friends to understand what love was.
Some said: "Love is a rose that blossoms inside your heart." Others read: "Love is a song that only you can hear!" or "Love is the wisdom of the fool and the folly of the wise."

All this was blooming confusing when your heart was going "Thump...Thump...Thump..." at the age of 13 or 14.
And your parents became aliens and you cried at the slightest reprimand

Does one ever get to understand love and be able to say: “Yep, I know I am in love because of such and such…”

You can read love quotations for the rest of your life they will never tell you what it really is.

Two brownie points to anyone who has their own explanation of what love is...without using a quotation!

I see no one has taken up your challenge yet!

Not sure I'm up to it either.

I just know for bloody sure that love DOESN'T mean never having to say you're sorry!!!

I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment. Now I could tell you a thing or two about Lust. Oh! But then I probably did that already x

Personally, I don't think love is all that special. Humans are capable of loving anyone they're compatible with, and almost anyone they're not compatible with. It's just a deep sense of attachment with little basis in logic (that's not to say it's a bad thing). Compatibility is the more important issue. Find that, and love will follow.

Now I'll have the double chocolate brownies please!

Hm, I don't think I can summarise love in one quote.

I think real love is what happens after the dizzy phase fades; after that, you know if it's real love...when you still want to be with that person, to chat, to share, to make that person happy.

I think love transcends borders, culture, time.

You're right GG. A weak moment. Love IS special. I can't explain it but I knew it when I saw it.

(I changed my settings Cream. I didn't realize I had it set that way. Think of all the anonymous comments I missed.)

I would love to say something super romantic but I actually agree with viking054 and gg both! It's special and it can just be lust and an attachment. ~valgal

It looks like Gigi and Viking have tickled people's fancy in their own way.
Being a romantic, I am with Gigi but Viking has a valid point, although one that may shatter the illusion for a young teenager in love...
Please fell free to carry commenting on this post...until I get round to producing a follow up.
Thank you all!
I'll keep the brownies...

Love is lively, lasting and the two of you exist together taking sustinence and delight from this love, being able to do things better because of it not in spite of it.
Oh crikey, is that a tall order.
It should be all of that...

I didn't notice I stirred up a little controversy :)

I'm in love, and it's one of the greatest feelings in the world. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

But I don't believe in fate. I don't believe there's one person for everyone. It's not special that way. There are millions of people you could fall in love with, so you might as well choose carefully.

When we humans are in 'love' we are only alotted a finite dosage of 'happy' hormones.
Originally designed to sedate us and free us from the tyranny of reality long enough to pair bond and procreate our genetic programming worked well when there wasn't so many 'sassy' potential mates around us to choose from.

Now we are overstimulated 24/7 and we really need to keep a tight leash on our basic instincts.

Love didn't mean I DO..it was designed to say I WILL DO YOU...for a while.
Not very romantic...but we can't ignore the chemistry.

Romantic love is a rather recent invention and one well worth pursuing. If we could 'pin it down'
like some insect specimen and analyze it properly it would take all of the fun out of it.
