The sun shines on the righteous....

Does it really?

This morning, my faith in human nature was reinforced no end!
A letter containing a Scottish £10 arrived on my desk with the following words:

Scotland, 23rd June 2006
Dear Sir,
I was a customer yesterday at your restaurant with my sisters. The bill at the end of the meal left me feeling rather guilty. Did I pay the full price-not-sure as I left only £40 (Scottish notes) Please find enclosed another £10 (Scottish) which should cover the amount.

I have a feeling it was £43.95 or something.
Please accept my apology.
Thank you
Yours sincerely…

This is just one of the honest gestures that sadly do not outweigh the bad experiences... but it shows that there is still hope...

If I am given extra change I always give it back... Am I frightened of the bolt of lightning that may strike as I step out of the shop...No, it just makes me feel good.

I believe that if we can all bring a tiny contribution to the overall feeling of righteousness in this world then it could turn out to be a good world... I am after all the eternal optimist...

So my response to this Scottish anonymous gentleman is this...

Thanks...
...for reminding me that I still live in a

I would go out of my way to do the same thing...and I'm not saying that to boast. It's like you said, it just makes you feel good. And when you do something like that, you silently wish the same feelings on the rest of the world...a kind of evangelism, I guess.

Thanks, Janet!

Brian, it should be a ripple effect like Mary said!

Oh that is so nice. It gives you such a nice warm feeling when that happens (like when the guinea pig wees on my lap when I am stroking him - well perhaps not quite the same).
You do write such nice posts, Cream.

How nice. I do like to think that the majority of people are, for the most part, good. It's just the odd few bastards who mess it up for the rest of us!

That is a wonderful thing to happen, Cream. My guess is that you've done tons of good stuff for others though.

Hayden, a really good feeling it gave to all the staff on Saturday...

Tat, that's a bit too early but I shall be joining you for a glass of Chilean Rosé a little later...
Your tips out?

Well, HE, stereotypes are just a load of waffle! Enjoy your Monday!

Gigi, nice to have you back online! I don't always think about it but my rule is what goes around comes around!

I heard a thing on the radio yesterday that said if someone falls over in the street it takes an average of nine seconds before someone helps them up! Invariably, they will be helped, it's human nature (this person said). However, if you come across someone in the street that hasn't been helped up the inclination is to NOT help them! Hmmm, ponder that one.

But with ref to your blog - I think it's incredible that someone actually went to that trouble AFTER the event when they could have so easily just thought about it but done nothing...my mum used to say "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" - how true that is.
