Mosaics...

Posted by Picasa

Well, here we are! All the mosaics are finished! Thank Heavens! I was getting a bit sick of the pressure. Many evenings I worked till very late but I am very happy with most.

Tomorrow, we will finish cleaning and then the soft furnishing will come out! I have bought lots of things to go on the walls. So the electric screwdriver will get some hammer!
I will be working full time in the kitchen until the chefs are confident enough.
The young head-chef and I will begin experimenting and trying our food on a few selected guinea pigs.
Tuesday, finishing touches and more tastings.
Wednesday evening, Casa del Mar will finally open to the public. No advertising as we want to ease ourselves into our first week slowly so all the staff get a good grounding.
Adam will use some staff from the other two restaurants as trainers for the new recruits.
And that's it!
I told him that he can use my service for 3 weeks before I go on holiday and then I'm out!
But I will remain in the background. Blogging my heart out...

I'm lokoing forward to the next step. You should offer yourself out as a mosaic artist! I know -- with what remaining time, right?

Viking, I hope that the guinea pigs enjoy it REALLY. Cos I only take compliments with a pinch of salt, especially when it's a free lunch. I want constructive criticisms!

Andrea, that would be a good idea if I were good. Photos don't show the lumps and bumps!

Yes, I like it too, Annie. It faces the front door. It only turned into a bull when I struggled with what to do with the top.

Wendy, colours are Karen's department. I know the primaries and that's my limit. But she had the finished thing in her mind's eye before a drop of paint went on the walls. She no longer work in the business but I trust 100% with details.
I never attempted to push Adam into the business, he decided to come into it. I am glad he's there!

right now i'm trying to finish a book, 'kitchen confidential' by tony bourdain. i learn a lot about chef world... it's very interesting, eh? :)

so is the working environment over there almost the same as said in the book (loud, noisy, testosterone atmosphere, etc.)? :)

Cream, I am so proud of you, I feel proud as if you were my own brother!

As euro-trac says, stunning!

You've inspired me, motivated me. I'm going to go write then sew.

Nicely done. I'll bet you're a little sick of breaking tiles by now, huh?

Incredible cream! You've really done a great job on these mosaics!

If I were in the area I'd be begging to be a guinnea pig... but I'm not, so I won't!

Good luck!

The place looks great already.
I'm sure the guinea pigs will enjoy the experience (which is far more than I can say about the guinea pigs I once used at lab work...).
Best of luck for Casa del Mar.

Hobbes, opening a restaurant on your little island! What a dream!

Iluvnyc, kitchen life could be like that but in my kitchen we have a good laugh and work hard. Respect reigns.

Thanks, Trac!

Gigi, I've always thought of you as my sister! Karen's sister has just finished sewing 60 cushions for us! That IS mind-numbing!

Brian, absolutely! I've got lots of unbroken tiles left over! I think I'll just smash them for the hell of it!

Thanks, Lee!

Caro, I've enjoyed it very much! I feel like sticking a label on each mosaic stating how may hours it took me!
Yes, Bristol is a bit too far, isn't it!

DC, thanks very much! I hope my guinea pigs enjoy it otherwise I'd the one whose brain needs testing!
