Mosaic...
I have started on the mosaic for the bar front at our Casa del Mar Tapas Bar and Grill!
The border is black, red and yellow. That was easy to do!
The hard work was to decide what design to use the mosaic... I have played around with mosaics in the past but not on such large scale.
I started and let my artistic mind wander. It is just a succession of swirls made with square bits of tile and then filled in with different colours.
The photo doesn't do the colours justice because they are much brighter in reality. What appears as cream is really bright yellow. I will take a photo when it's finished.

Oooh...this is going to be very pretty! I love the swirly patterns and I love these bright colors. It looks like a great project too. I can't wait to see the finished product! Funny...we have been looking at glass tiles for a backsplash in our kitchen, and in my travels I keep finding sites with gorgeous mosaic tiles. It makes me want to make a mosaic instead of a more conservative treatment. Maybe I'll make something little just for fun. Did I say Happy New year yet? If not..well, then...and if so, well, then...Happy New Year:>
beautiful! reminds me of gaudi's benches at parque guell... love the colors. :)
That's really nice. You know what, I have to go to the U.K. and go to your tapas bar! It is my new goal in life. I have to go to your restaurants and see what they're like with my own eyes and taste buds. :)
cream, this is so impressive! I love this and it is so nice that this creative facet of you will be greeting people at your tapas bar. yes i will meet juliana at your tapas bar too! you are a marvel!
I'm impressed! I've always wanted to do tile work (even going so far as to buy the tiles and supplies for my kitchen). ...but I never get up my nerve to start.
Party at Cream's tapas bar!
:)
ohhh, WOW! I'm loving this - and if the colors are even better it must be dazzling. Just wonderful. Can't wait to see the photo of it finished.
You are having fun aren't you!
Everyone will go crazy for your bar!
Thank you all for the lovely comments! It is very easy apart from the fact that it takes a long time! Tomorrow I shall finish the central part. No idea what I am gonna do. I just hope I finish before the midnight celebration starts!
I love it. Is this an area where bar stools will be placed? Is there under-the-counter lighting here? Just curious. I have a thing for bars and restaurants. I thought of opening one up myself once.Who knows...I may suddenly change careers like you. Good luck and I wish I could be there to see it. Perhaps I'll come to the party that Juliana is calling.
It won't be a traditional tapas bar because food will be served at the tables so there won't be any stools to hide the mosaic. There is under-counter lighting.
Hoping to open 3rd week in Jan if everything goes according to plan.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant! I know the tapas bar is going to be a great success - have a very happy new year, and thanks for all the wonderful posts.
Oooo, purdy! Makes me hungry, and thirsty, and hungry again!
Wow. It's all fire and grill and sea and food. Love it!
You're going to do well, Cream, you will! Sending good vibes.
it is so nice!

What Juilana said!
This is looking fantastic, Cream. I love mosaic but this is better than anything I've seen in ages. Let your mind go -- you'll like what you end up with.
Bonne annee!
Thank you all! I finished it on New Year's eve at 4.30pm. Very tedious in the end! I will post a finished photo next week!
