He sang many beautiful songs and his fans all have their own favourite.

My favourite rendition after the original is Nina Simone's French version where her velvety voice sang the beautiful words in an American accent. Ner Mer Keeter Par...

I love Jacques Brel! I discovered him a few years ago through David Bowie's (loose) translations of a couple songs. I've never heard anyone express so much emotion with their voice. You don't have to understand the words to know what he's feeling (though it probably helps).
